This is how I've felt since Wednesday morning at 6:00 am......not fun! The Doggett Family was visited by the Viral Gastroenteritis bug this past week and trust me kids....it's not fun! It is a sudden onset of vomiting, diarreah and dehydration...not to mention the zapping of energy, the stomach cramps from Hades and the inability to sustain even water. Not....fun.....
I woke up while Michael was in the shower getting ready for work. I thought...gosh I don't feel good. But I can't be sick...because this is the day he goes to Phoenix for work...I can't be sick. Oh but what a funny little world we live in...because my bug didn't give two hoots about schedule and came in with a vengeance! I initially vomited...which I never EVER do and it was horrible and I hated it and pretty much made myself stop. Well if can't come out the top...it was determined to come out the bottom. Absolutely the worst stomach pains and most debilitating nausea I've ever experienced in my life.
I was immediately zapped of all energy and all I wanted to do was lay perfectly still so that the nausea would calm down. I slept a lot. My poor kids...they really were on their own and they did so good and were big help to me. Michael came home for lunch before his flight to check on me. He didn't want to leave but of course had to go. I had run a little fever and felt like total poo. I ate 5 Saltines and a baby Sprite and went back to bed....woke up feeling a little better. Took a shower...went downhill for the night and spent the later afternoon and all night in bed.
Woke up the next day feeling better...but not great...but a little more functional. I'd gotten through the night with no "issues" but they of course started as soon as I got up and moving and drinking water. I kept nothing in that day at all. Drink a sip of water....was running to the potty 5 minutes later. ANYTHING that hit my stomach was gone within 5 minutes. BUT I was feeling.....ok. Mom came for lunch, Jan dropped off a few groceries for me and I was doing ok.
Then all of a sudden at 5:30 I started to make the kids dinner and I started getting cold....so cold I was shaking violently and then I started getting light headed. NO CLUE what was happening, I dropped their food on the table and then jumped in my bed WRAPPED in my comforter. I shook tensely and violently - absolutely freezing - for an hour PRAYING out loud to the Lord to make it stop because it was SO tense...it was starting to hurt and at some point I fell asleep again. When I woke up, I was disoriented. When I got up to potty, my heart felt fluttery and weird. I then realized how hot I was and knew I was in pretty bad shape. I called my mother in law and asked her to get me to an ER as fast as possible.
The next hour is kinda blur. Jan came in and took my temp, I was at 104.8....I don't run fever ever and if I do it's never real big. She got the kids in the car and by this point my stomach feels like I'm being stabbed over and over...sharp horrible pains, my head is killing me and I'm so tired and just keep feeling like passing out. They got me into triage and my vitals alarmed them...and I almost passed out...so I was back in a bed within 5 minutes...I went ahead of a lady who's water broke :S
They got 2 liters in me within an hour and a 3rd one went in slower. I also had to take 2 HUGE Potassium tablets, a big ol' mamma jamma Motrin and lots of nausea meds. I was SEVERELY dehydrated and suffering from Viral Gastroenteritis. When Mom got there I still didn't want to open my eyes - I had no energy to even talk....but by the 3rd liter, I was sitting up in bed talking with Mom and Connie, waiting on Michael's plane to land, e-mailing my Twin Sale girls to let them know what was going on. A HUGE difference a little hydration does!
I now know what the Flu could feel like...since I've never had it....and now I can say with all honesty I never WANT it. I can now say that I now know what dehydration feels like and what it does to you....and it's scary....and I don't want to go through that again.
SO....the Twins Sale.....is the next day. I'm supposed to be there at 9:30 the next morning and the ER doc told me not to push it, that I wouldn't make a full day. My Mom is AWESOME and volunteered to go work 1/2 a day for me. It was a hard morning...I kept asking for strength to get through it. Once I got there, everyone was SO sweet and supportive. Once I got busy I did ok. Towards the end of the day I started cramping up again and it just kept getting worse as the night went on. During shopping, I was sucking wind and couldn't even keep track of my math on what I'd gotten....I got a piece of pizza and a gatorade. I finally ate...and pizza probably wasn't the best to start with...but it helped. I then had to work the next 3 hours while our members shopped. Shannon noticed at 10 - I wasn't doing to hot and they let me go.
Well....I get home and sure enough....Raina has been puking every 30 minutes since 7:30. So I got the house picked up, got some laundry folded and everything situated for me to be gone the next day and we laid down with Raina. All night...every 30 minutes on cue she'd puke. It was a long night. There's just no sleeping on nights like that. So at 5:20....I just get up, get ready and head to my computer. It was going to be a long day....LOL!
Twin Sale day....I was tired...but doing better health wise. I'm still at only about 50% and felt so horrible I wasn't giving them my all...because I am usually a work horse in those situations...but kept having to take bathroom breaks and towards the end of the day I was needing to sit a little. But got through it and I sold ALL my big ticket items and didn't see much of my stuff in the donation pile...woo hoo!
The Sale experience was really fun and I look forward to being on the Committee one day. I love all the girls and love the sale every year. I got home about 3:00 and Raina had done ok all day, but got puny again right before I got there. I tried to feed her some applesauce and it came back up all over me :| But that was it for her. She had a hard weekend with NO energy and lots of napping....but did WAY better than I did. Michael and Brody at this point dodged a bullet...I hope it stays that way because it's such a HARD sickness. I STILL don't feel 100% but at least getting an appetite back.
We gotta all get back to 100%.....we turn 4 on Sunday!!!
