What a weekend!

So last week was DEFINITELY one of our crazier weeks around the ol' Doggett house.  We were jam packed on the calendar, but by far, the busies day was Thursday, our 8 year anniversary.  We had 2 end of year Parent/Teacher conferences.  They were VERY nice and put us 1st and 2nd on their lists so that were weren't spending our anniversary at the school...ha!

I tell ya....couldn't have wished for a better day.  I got up at the booty crack of dawn to have "Muffins with Mom's" at the school.  Went to Sonshine and loved on some sweet preschoolers and then to pick up kiddos and Michael and then BACK to school for conferences.  I walked away BEYOND proud of my children.

We had SUCH a hard go at getting them...lots of heartbreak and triumph with that story....but we got them and they're SO amazing.  I couldn't think of a better way of celebrating my marriage to my best friend than celebrating the achievements of our 2 miracle babies!!

Raina is reading 2nd grade level, she aced her math assessment with a 100% (1 out of 3 Kinders to do that) and is doing beyond great!  Brody's marks were all high on Dybles (sp?) and he is reading 1st grade level.  He did not get a perfect score on his assessment...but he only missed 1 out of the whole test.  I mean...WHOA!  I walked out of that school with 2 of the coolest kids on the planet :)  They are beyond ready for 1st grade.  Love it.

We went to eat at Mi Chula's in Frisco after that because I'd won a $25 gift card in our twins sale auction.  Very cool...very good food and then we went home and I crashed early from my 5:45 wake up call....it was a little early...HA!

I worked the next day at the church but Mom got the kids for the night and MD and I went downtown to the Hyatt Regency for a night away to celebrate our 8 year anniversary.  It was SO nice.  We had a great room / great view / great atmosphere / great waiters....FUN...it was all so fun :)

 our view

 Tuxedo strawberries and Champagne

we're not big champagne drinkers...but we choked down a glass....it was Brut :P

We went down before dinner to the hotel bar and had a drink and a really nice, uninterrupted by kids, phones, TV, computers talk....REALLY nice....
 cute boy!

the upper floors of the hotel were being renovated...but we went up there anyway so I could get this picture....this kids is where it all started...where sweet Michael proposed :)

So then we went up and had a drink (since we already ate our complimentary meal down at the hotel)
I won this drink by knowing what the glass was called....woot woot!

But all good things come to an end....and back to parenting reality.  This was at 6:50 in the morning and we were having to get up and to the ball field for Brody's game.

I'm sure most everyone saw on my Facebook this weekend...but it was no ordinary game.  It was one of the most awesome games I think I'll ever be able to ever witness.  Jesus was out on that field that day and it was AMAZING!

1st...Brody did awesome.  I'd be lying if I didn't say I wasn't so very proud of the player he's  becoming.  I'll attach 2 videos...he got an out while playing second with a super awesome play and he also had 3 RBI's but unfortunately was never able to make it home.....but his abilities are really shining every time he's out there.

All that aside...they played a team called the Braves.  Good team...they were giving us a run for our money.  Up comes this blonde haired little boy named Alex.  Alex had a smile on his face and an excitement for the game.  Alex also had Downs Syndrome.  Those that know me...know I've got a special place in my heart for Downs kiddos and I just fell in love with his smile.  3 good swings, but no go.  Game goes on and here he comes again.  Still smiling...still happy to have that bat in his hands.  His coach sets him up.  I just knew he was going to get a hit.  Something told me he was...so I turned on my video.  Sure enough....he swings big and get his 1st hit ever.  I cannot express to you the joy of seeing that moment.  There was not a dry eye in the park.

Sweet Alex didn't know what to do...but he eventually got to 1st, got around to 2nd, 3rd and even came home.  His 1st hit and his 1st score.  Jesus was in that park on Saturday.  It would be impossible to believe otherwise.  I got to see Alex enjoying the excitement of his 1st hit and all the fans yelling for him and you got to see everyone show a little love for an angel named Alex.  It was a joy and a privilege to be able to be a part of that.

So THEN.....Sunday hits....Kidcreek Orientation day!!!  We had a GREAT turnout and a GREAT time.  I was so elated to be able to breakout with my Preschool Volunteers and really be able to share my heart for what I do and my appreciation for every single one of them.  I love a Volunteer's heart :)

But before that.....Mr. Brody dropped a 2nd tooth!!!  Talk about an exciting weekend....it was so exciting....I went home and CRASHED!  HA!  We were a tad late for our get together that evening with some really good friends....but the nap was SO worth it :)

Goals for 2020

So after thinking through this for a while, I've decided to bring this back into my life.  I love to write, I love to express myself and share recipes.  SO...this blog may not always look pretty...it might get messy, because that's life, and I'm too old to pretend it's not.   Goals for 2020: To continue to search for what feeds my soul and not harms it. I'm going to keep up with my health goals and make it another year of weight maintenance.  Walking starts again.  Not about needing to lose, I like everything a bit tighter.  So there you go.  I'm not athletic, I do not LIKE working out.  But I do like walking because of the moment to take a breath and enjoy being outside and listening to good music 💓 I wanted to commit to living my truth...if I say be kind...that means I have to drop some guards and also do just that.  There's been a couple relationships over the years that I wanted to circle back to this year.  Both hav...

Award Winning Salsa

Well…it won an award in my family 🤣 This blog has seen MANY salsa recipes. I LOVE salsa. I’m always trying to perfect my recipe so I tried some different things yesterday and BAM….I mean wowza BAM!!!! Jayme’s Award Winning 😉 Salsa 2lbs Tomatillo, husked and washed and halved 2 Jalapeño, washed, halved, seeded if you’re a wuss.  1 Serrano, washed, remove stem 1 red onion, quartered 1 Lg Tomato 1 Bunch Cilantro 2 Tbs minced garlic  Salt  On a large baking sheet lay out your tomatillos, peppers and onion. Cover the bottom of the pan Chicken stock or water. I also drizzled a little olive oil.  Put in a 350 oven for 75-90 minutes.  Let cool down a bit and throw everything in a food processor.  Holy. Moly. Very restaurant like. Maybe a Cantina Laredo or Haciendas Ranch feel to it. So. Good.  I like it warm so when I go to get it out of the fridge, I just throw in the microwave for a sec.  SO good!

Perpetual diets and a soul change....

I feel like all my life, I've been on a perpetual diet.  Seriously.  Pretty much every day of my life has been a choice.  Some days/months/years I do great.  Others....not so much. I've never been one of those girls.  You know...the ones that always just pulled it off.  Looks, weight, clothes.  Nope.  That is not me.  I've also always had skinny friends.  They ate the same things as me...but I'd notice on me and never on them.  I think I've always aspired in some way to be each of them.  Hell, maybe they keep me in check so I don't ever let myself go to much?  That's some deep thinking stuff! What a funny life.  Then, I had my jaw surgery.  Long recovery.  Long, hard, painful recovery.  I think I just gave myself a pass for the last couple of years.  Because I can tell you...I hadn't been too worried about my weight since then. So.  I had a picture taken of me on August 17th.  As ...
