But yet I'm writing about it.....ugh and it's annoying me...I am annoying myself because I've been in a bad mood all day over it. SO silly!
I grew up in a very large extended family. I can look back and place a big family get together at almost every turn. Thanksgiving's were a BIG deal and we all ended up at my granny's for a house FULL of family. Nanny died....and then Granny died and it's like it all just stopped. Those who tried to pick up the tradition only did it a year or so because of the extreme amount of work or their houses weren't big enough or they're doing this or that this year. Some family does still get together but invitations are not extended out to everyone. "Oh you know you're always invited"....uh no...I didn't....is the usual response to silly sayings like that. Like it or not - the invitation is still a large part of life today!
Ok so what I'm getting to...my Nanny dies and it just felt like the family gave up. Gave up on each other, gave up on get togethers. Everyone became a little more busy or a little more selfish and now it's reduced to almost NOTHING. I can't tell you the last time everyone was together and especially at a holiday.
On Dad's side. It was definitely a smaller side. It always felt like we were close - I guess I could have had a childhood illusion on that. I thought as we all aged we only grew closer. I know when Maw Maw died we all tried really hard to keep the family together.
Ugh....just writing all this annoys me...
SO the kids party is coming up. There's always some invites you send that you KNOW they're not going to show. With those it's usually a "we're thinking of you" type invite - no let down there when they really don't show. Then there's the ones that in YOUR head, without a shadow of a doubt they're going to be there. They love you, they love your kids and they WANT to be there. SO it hurts REALLY bad when you start getting excuses or "no" replies.
I guess I need to get out of that childhood illusion that we'd always be close. I guess I need to understand that I may go out of my way for them, but that's not the mentality when it comes to me. I guess I need to quit making people a priority when they choose only to make me an option. I guess I need to just let it go and get over it. Put my big girl panties on and toughen up my heart a little.
